Arsenal remains the only team that has undefeated a fully Premier League season when they won the title in 2003-04.
But within a few years after that historical triumph, the Invincables team was broken up.
And that included Benelingssuperstar forward Thierry Henry.
Talisman Henry – Arsenal Captain At that time – left Noord -Londs for Barcelona at the age of 29 – in the summer of 2007.
The Gunners received only £ 16 million for their record goalscorer.
But in an exclusive interview with Bombshell with Sunsport, in which he hits the board for “failure” Mikel Arteta, former Arsenal director Keith Edelman revealed why they were willing to sell Henry.
Edelman said: “The reason that Thierry continued was because he lost his speed.
“His game was all about speed.
'And if you lose your speed, then you are dead.
“So we got money for him, despite the fact that he was in the down fall.
“It's just like Kevin De Bruyne. Would you have been better to sell him for more money at the end of last year?
“Or keep him and risk that he would continue this season?”
Henry – who scored 228 times for Arsenal – had three seasons in the Nou -Camp and won two Laliga titles, the Copa del Rey, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.
Regarding the team he left, the Arsenal of Arsene Wenger went nine years without a big trophy between their FA Cup triumphs in 2005 and 2014.
Part of the reason for the lack of success was because many of the Invincibles 2004 left the club – including Heroes Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires – to make way for cheaper, younger players with potential.
However, the transfer strategy was due to the financial mud where Arsenal was located.
Edelman explained: “Building a team goes in waves.
“If you have endless amounts of money, as Manchester City had, you could keep a team longer.
“I would claim that there are probably only 20 players of world class in the entire Premier League, which is a very small number.
“That is why replacing world class players is very difficult.
“And that is why, if you win things, you have many world -class players because you win things like that. But as they get older, it is very difficult to replace them.
“You have to look at how many players of world class you have in your team, and they will not be world class forever, they are getting older and tend to fall.
“This is what I mean to look at things strategically.
“You have to ask the right questions. You have to investigate. I don't think many people do that.
“Arsenal was really lucky in the invincible years because they had Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires, Sol Campbell and Gilberto Silva, there are five world class players.”
