‘If you want to succeed at this club, you have to suffer’ – Dalot fires Rashford warning after shock Man Utd omission

MARCUS RASHFORD has been warned he must “suffer” if he wants to succeed under new boss Ruben Amorim.

The ruthless manager dropped Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United's squad for Sunday's 2-1 comeback derby triumph.

And Red Devils defender Diogo Dalot said: “If you want to succeed at this club, you have to suffer.

“If you're ready to do that with us, we'll be a good team. If not, there's no room for you.”

England forward Rashford (27) and 20-year-old Argentinian winger Garnacho were dropped due to poor training.

Portugal's Dalot added: “The message was clear from the beginning: if you want to succeed, if you want to prosper, you have to suffer.

“That applies not only in football, but in life. If you want success, you have to work hard and suffer.”

While United fans were ecstatic at the Etihad, the players are refusing to get carried away.

Dalot said: “The reality is that this is happening step by step.

“With the new manager we are making progress and taking very good steps towards where we want to go, but it will take time.

“In recent years we have had some crazy games like this, where we fought until the end, and that is the DNA of this club.

“We showed character and even when we lost games we kept our emotions under control, which is an improvement over recent years.

“When we were behind against City we could have lost our heads.”

Fellow defender Harry Maguire was a key part of Amorim's new back three system.

Maguire revealed that talks over a possible new contract have been positive and hopes it could result in an extended stay at Old Trafford.

The England centre-back, 31, said: “I still have this year to go with an option held by the club.

“But all signs are positive and discussions are ongoing.”

Impressed by Portugal's Amorim, he adds: “We have a good structure and a good playing style. Tactically he is very good, a proven winner.”

“He has been here for a month and we are really looking forward to where we can take this club.”
