Ilia Topuria reveals the real reason he vacated his UFC featherweight title

Ilia Topuria knows something that we don't do.

There are two thinks when it comes to the lightweight movement of Topuria, one is an immediate title fight for the UFC -Fedweight champion or two, who must make its way to a championship chance as any other top candidate would do.

Although Ilia Topuria is not like any other hunter.

The hard-handy Spaniard won the 145LB division with knockouts from Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, former champions Back-to-Back.

What came after that was just as unexpected as Topuria left the featherweight throne, making it his mission to conquer the lightweight division … but why so fast?

Ilia Topuria has the word of the UFC for the next fight with lightweight

Topuria announced earlier this month that he would have drawn up a fight that you would not believe.

Weeks later we still have to receive a confirmation about who the lightweight opponent of Topuria, UFC champion Islam Makhachev, will be under options such as Dustin Poirier, Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje.

When asked about his future, Topuria makes one thing clear.

“I don't know who will be my next fight,” said Topuria in Spanish at the WOW 17 Post-Fight Press Conference (via Marca).

“The only thing I know is that I have the word of the UFC that will be my next fight for the [lightweight] World title.

“If they offered me a fight against you, I would accept,” Topuria told a reporter.

Why Ilia Topuria left the title when he did

Name-Dropping Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira as potential opponents in the same interview, Ilia Topuria does not seem to have a preference about who he then fights. As long as it is for the belt, the Rebrande “La Leyenda” is happy.

Topuria says that that is what the UFC Brass promised him before he made the decision to give up his 145 pound title.

“That was the promise when I left the title because I am going [lightweight belt]”Topuria revealed.

“I could have done it in a different way, such as:” I'm going to wait until they send a contract to sign, then I will leave the title … “

“Everything they promised to me, they fulfilled,” Topuria explained why he put his confidence in the UFC.
