A new UFC light weight champion was crowned on Saturday evening in Las Vegas.
In May, Islam Makhachev left the belt of 155 pounds to pursue championship glory in welterweight.
Ilia Topuria did the same when he dropped his featherweight title to jump on a division.
The gamble was bearing fruit when he won the empty lightweight title by eliminating former champion Charles Oliveira in the UFC 317 Main Event.

Ilia Topuria vs Charles Oliveira result
Topuria delivered his pre-fighting promise to Ko Oliveira in the first round at UFC 317.
'Do Bronx' started well and was able to mix it in wrestling and striking fairs.
However, he was cut by a solid right right that hit him cold in Las Vegas.
Topuria landed a follow -up hook when the lifeless body of Oliveira collapsed on the floor in a lot.
The 28-year-old now has a 17-0 record after he has become a two-weight champion in the most important promotion of MMA.
What is the next step for Ilia Topuria?
A fight with Paddy Pimblett seems to be on the horizon for the new lightweight king.
'The Baddy' jumped into the cage to see Topuria together after his epic knockout victory.
Pimblett gave him the honor, but insisted that he could not crack his famous Granite Kin.
Security intervened when Topuria pushed his old rival when the waste interview became too much.
