Daniel Farke dropped Illan Meslier for Luton's championship conflicts against Luton for Saturday, set up with Karl Darlow to replace the French goalkeeper.
Meslier, 25, started this season on every competition match for Leeds, but despite saving a penalty against Swansea on Saturday, his mistakes costs Farke's victory.
“It was important that we had clarity earlier this week, so Karl was able to concentrate on this,” Farke said. 'It is the right time for this decision to protect Illan and to give him a breathing break, but we trust so much and its quality. I am convinced that it is the right decision. '
Meslier made countless mistakes this season and Farke insisted that he was always reluctant to change his keeper.
“Karl buzzes, but it's harder for Illan,” he said. 'We all know that Illan has had a difficult season. I was always honest about this. With a keeper you are more careful to change than an outfield player. '
Darlow, 34, starts his first league match since December 2023 when Meslier was suspended.
