‘I’m not going to go down without a fight’ – Marquinhos ready for Inter test

Paris Saint-Germain Captain Marquinhos said he would do everything in his power to win the Champions League final, after he had already lost in the showpiece competition.

Marquinhos was a member of the PSG team that lost to Bayern Munich in the 2020 final, but has a second shot at European Glory Against Inter on Saturday.

This season, the Brazilian is a crucial part of the Luis Enrique team, who have already lifted the Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France Crown.

Only Atletico Madrid (43.5%) has handed over a higher part of the minutes this season to players of 30 years in the Champions League than Inter (43.3%), whose 6,151 minutes by players 30 years old is the most by a team since Juventus in 2016-17 (6,186).

All 1,350 minutes have given PSG to players aged 30 or older, are from only one player, Marquinhos, who looks out for redemption in the Allianz Arena.

“We have experienced highlights, we have experienced lows,” Marquinhos told reporters.

“Tomorrow we have a great opportunity. We could go into history. This would be great for the club for the players.

“This is my second chance to win a Champions League final, and I'm not going without a fight.”

But it's not all just sailed for the Parisiens, who are in danger of threatening at a certain stage to even make the knockout phases of the competition.

They had lost three and pulled one of their opening of five games, but finished 15th in the competition phase after victories over Red Bull Salzburg, Manchester City and Stuttgart.

Since then they have gone into force and they want to end their season with the prize where they crave for so long.

PSG has indeed played the fourth games (167) without ever winning the European Cup/UEFA Champions League since it started in 1955, behind Arsenal (211), Dynamo Kyiv (185) and Atletico (176).

A victory on Saturday she would have seen the most matches before they won their first trophy in the competition, with Man City the current most at 116 before they won their 117th game in the final against Inter in 2023.

“We're going to get the performance of your life on the field tomorrow, because it will be very difficult, and we actually had to fight the entire season to reach the final,” Marquinhos added.

“We have done everything we can to reach the final of the Champions League. This is the best moment of our season. It's those icing at the top, and it's up to us now.

“We have to bring the silverware back to Paris, so that we can share this with our fans who supported us during the season.
