There were emotional scenes last night as Italian assistant referee Alessandro Giallatini was left in tears, comforted by RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose.
It was the last game of his career for Giallatini, who played 41 games in club football's most prestigious competition.
When the final whistle blew on his Champions League career in Aston Villa's 3-2 win over RB Leipzig, the emotion of that moment was felt by 49-year-old Giallatini.
Rose saw it and went over to comfort him, soon joined by more players.
The highlight of the referee's career was being part of the team for the 2020 Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, where he teamed up with Daniele Orsato.
His love for the sport was also very moving for Portuguese coach Roberto Martinez, who was an expert in Amazon Prime Sport reporting.
