Infantino confirms 2026 WC final will have a Super Bowl-style half-time show

Fans have reacted furiously to the news that there will be a half-time show in Super Bowl style during next year's World Cup final.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed the decision on Wednesday morning, with Coldplay who was in charge of choosing the artists.

A half-time show has been an important part of the Super Bowl for years, with the headline act about 13 minutes to perform their biggest hits.

The American rapper Kendrick Lamar stole the show during the showpiece of last month and used his platform to bring his long-term feud with fellow musician Drake back into the spotlight.

Now football will try out its own half-time show and will do this on the biggest stage, but many fans are far from convinced that it is a good idea.

“Game has officially disappeared,” a supporter claimed when they took to X to protest against the announcement.

“Utter woke up nonsense,” another rumbling.

There have also been worried that the length of the half-time show could interrupt the current of the game and remove the total spectacle.

“If it takes longer than 15 minutes, it is a shame,” a dissatisfied fan has posted.

Some fans have also pronounced fears about what could happen, with one that increases the prospect that Premier League matches are being played in the US to continue to appease the American audience.

“The game we once loved is ruined. Then we will play Premier League matches in the US permanently, “they wrote.

Another fan added: “Football is really in the gutter nowadays, it has been destroyed in all ways.”

Musical acts have performed on large football matches – such as the Champions League final – earlier, but they have been recorded for matches.

Rock icon Lenny Kravitz went through his back catalog prior to last year's final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in Wembley.

The time slot will switch to the half time this year's final, with American Rockers Linkin Park due to performance in Munich on 31 May.

The same idea will then be tested on the World Cup 2026, but it did not go well with most fans.
