Injured pride a key factor in Real Madrid reaction after Carlo Ancelotti talk

Real Madrid have taken six points, scored seven goals and conceded none in their two games since the defeat to AC Milan, and they look a lot more like Real Madrid of old. Part of that is down to a series of changes that Carlo Ancelotti has made, but the biggest factor is a wounded ego.

So says Marca, who highlights the introduction of hungry players such as Arda Guler and Dani Ceballos as a stimulant, as well as the return of Jude Bellingham to his preferred position behind the front line. Ancelotti's speech to the team, which has been called the most serious and critical speech he has given during his two spells at the club, was well received by the players. Their star list meant they let the club and the manager down, but most importantly it damaged their professional pride.

However, the real test of this will be against Liverpool and beyond the initial reaction. Leganes and Osasuna can be tough opponents on their day, but they were two of the quieter games Los Blancos could have had. With a trip to San Mames looming after Anfield, Real Madrid will be desperate to sustain their response.
