Inside Amorim long ball revolution as star ordered to completely change his game

In the modern game it seems that all best teams take place from behind.

But Ruben Amorim goes the other way – by letting his goalkeeper have it for a long time.

Andre Onana was signed by Inter in 2023 because of his ability to play from the back.

Yes, there have been some controversial blunders along the way.

But in general Onana has trust with the ball at his feet.

The statistics, however, show that he is being asked to make it much more – that the expiration of a discount when pressure is simply not worth the risk.

Finally, United has lost the ball 142 times in their own defensive third part this season-the sixth of the 20 top-flight teams.

As reported by athletics, Opta -Statistics show that only five keepers have done more “launches” in the Premier League this season.

A “launch” is defined as a high ball – 40 meters longer – in the room or an area for players to hunt or challenge.

Only Dean Henderson has completed less than Onana's 25.8 percent of 380 points up.

Onana – a transfer target for Saudi -Arabia – played most of his passes short in Amorim's first game that was in charge, against Ipswich in November.

And even against Everton on February 22, he only made three launches.

But when United was facing Arsenal on March 9, a team produced more than Everton, the Cameroonian Stopper produced no less than 29, the most under Amorim.

He has now launched an average of 20.4 in the last five games of United – in contrast to six per match in the early days of Amorim's regime.

In February Amorim insisted that he is not too regimited and is being put on his roads – and perhaps his arm has had somewhat due to the Lisandro Martinez injury.

The Portuguese said: “It is not that I will not adapt.

“We adapt.

“Sometimes we have short goals and sometimes long balls, because the opponent presses a lot.

“I try to adapt to the players we have.”

But do the long balls work?

Well, not massive.

Sub -Firing strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have won only 22 and 29 percent of their air duels this season – a drop on earlier campaigns.

And Alejandro Garnacho, often a target for Onana's hopeful stairs wide, only wins nine percent of his air challenges, one of the worst figures in the Division for Wingers.
