Inter Miami can finally breathe a sigh of relief – one of the top goals of the club is a step away from joining the franchise. Although the official announcement is still being treated, all signs on the Argentinian midfielder Rodrigo de Paul point out that the coming weeks will make his move from Atlético Madrid to South Florida.
Sources close to the deal indicate that the transfer has been essentially completed, with a few more formalities before Inter Miami rolls out the red carpet for the World Cup winner. Once confirmed, this controversial signing will mark an important milestone for the club and fulfill an important objective of leadership earlier this summer.
Sports journalist Gastón Edul confirmed on Wednesday that the Paul is officially on his way to Inter Miami. According to reports, the club, based in Fort Lauderdale, reached a deal with Atlético worth € 15 million (around $ 17.5 million). De Paul locks the agreement for the next four seasons with the herons.
The 31-year-old joined Atleti in a five-year-old deal of € 35 million from Udinese in 2021. He made 187 performances under Diego Simeone, scored 14 goals and created another 26. He has to walk for a year with his current contract that expires in June.
Sources close to the club told that Inter Miami is planning to introduce the Paul during the upcoming Leagues Cup, which will start in just a few weeks. His debut is expected to arrive at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on July 30, when Inter Miami is confronted with the Mexican side atlas.
Inter Miami wants to make further signing sessions
With the controversial arrival of Rodrigo de Paul everything but sealed, Inter Miami puts his sights on locking at least one reinforcement before he completely mentions his schedule for the second half of the MLS season.
A name in the mix is veteran Argentinian defender Marcos Rojo, a former Manchester United Center-back that is currently playing for Boca Juniors. Rojo had emerged as an important target for the herons, but the negotiations seem to have cooled down in recent days after the player received offers from other clubs in his home country, with rumors that he is almost returning to Estudiantes.
Nevertheless, Inter Miami remains hopeful about reaching a deal, using their existing relationship with the player's representative.
Rojo shares the same agent as Tadeo Allende and Gonzalo Luján, two players Inter Miami have been successfully brought in during earlier transfer penters.
The club has convinced that shared connection that a deal with the former Manchester United and Boca Juniors is striking, even if competitive offers from Argentina have complicated negotiations.
