Acerbi refused the selection after the last defeat of the Champions League on Saturday against PSG.
“After deep consideration, I informed the CT today that I will not accept the call not to become a member of the national team. It is not a choice that I have made lightly because wearing the Azzurri shirt has always been an honor and source of pride for me,” Acerbi has placed on social media on Sunday.
“In the light of recent events, however, there are no circumstances to continue on this trip at the moment. I am not looking for apologies or favors, I demand respect. And if this respect is missing from those who have to lead the group, I would rather step aside.
“I am not someone who sticks to a convocation. I have always given everything, but I will not stay where I no longer really wanted, and it is clear that I am not part of the CT project.”
Spalletti doubts
He continued: “This is my decision, and as I said this morning to the CT, it is not final, neither dictated by anger nor by the 'depression' after losing a Champions League final. It is a need to take a step back.
“I wish the best for the national team, and just like my teammates I will continue to root for them with the same dedication that I have always shown on the field.”
