Davide Fratteni scored in extra time to earn Inter Milan a place in the Champions League final after an incredible back and forth semi-final match against Barcelona in the San Siro
Inter Milan hero Davide Fratteni left Thierry Henry in stitches in his interview after the game after he had fired the Nerazzurri at the final of the Champions League. The Italian midfielder scored to send the San Siro against Barcelona in extra time in except celebrations.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, Inter had given a lead of two goals before Francesco Acerbi played for another 30 minutes with a stop-time equalizer after the remarkable Barca comeback. Fratteni then gave the match-definating moment in the 99th minute.
The 25-year-old came from the bank as a 79th minute replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and 20 minutes later sprinted to the corner flag screaming after a very cool finish. The calmness that Frattesi showed, Henry was very impressed.
The Arsenal -legend asked the goal scorer what went through his head when he chose to shoot in Dummy before he fired the ball target for the ball. “I didn't see a man who was nervous or that his heart was right,” Henry told the match winner after the game.
“I saw a man who was composed to end up in that game at that moment. Explain to us how you thought about doing that.”
“Thank you, I don't know,” Frattesi replied. “Maybe because I thought if I didn't score, I'm fu *** d.”
Inter's Hero left the CBS studio in stabbing with Henry who bought his head and hit the table. Former Juventus striker Alesandro del Piero could not hide his smile, stood next to Frattesi.
While Frattesi retained his calmness at the crucial moment, it could not be further from the truth for his parties. The ex-Sassuolo-axle almost fainted.
“I was lucky to see the game, because I was so many fourth that I was dizzy and almost had a blackout!” Frattesi admitted. “I have to thank the physios, because yesterday I had a belly tension, so they worked incredibly to make me fit for this competition.
“It's just incredible, I don't know what to say. I thought I could not repeat that emotion after Bayern Munich's game, but it was even more incredible tonight. This is the beauty of football.
“This has really been my career. I was not blessed with incredible talent, but I am the last one to give up and the first to believe, so this is a reward for effort and dedication.”
