Injury problems cast a shadow over the excellent version in the 3-3 Champions League-equal game on Wednesday with Barcelona, with the side of Simone Inzaghi probably without Lautaro Martinez for the second stage.
Inter became 2-0 and 3-2 in the first stage of their semi-final draw in Catalonia, although they are still approaching the home leg of next Tuesday in a strong position.
However, they have fitness problems. Benjamin Pavard was already out with an ankle injury, while Star Striker Martinez was unable to return for the second half of Wednesday's game due to a hamstring problem.
“Lautaro felt something in his leg and we will know more tomorrow after we have performed a few tests, but it seems extremely unlikely that he will be able to reach the second stage, which will be a final for us,” Inzaghi told Movistar Plus.
“We hope to have Pavard back next Tuesday, but I don't think we can expect the same thing from Lautaro, unfortunately.
“It will be a final for us and I count on 75,000 of our fans to help us achieve this remarkable performance.”
Martinez has eight Champions League goals for Inter this season, with that team-high figure from opportunities worth only 4.2 expected goals (XG).
The Netherlands Right back Denzel Dumfries, who scored twice for the Nerazzurri, trivialized the fact that Inter wasted their first lead of two goals.
He praised the efforts of his party, especially after they had suffered three consecutive losses in the Interior Front, with back-to-back series A defeats and a Coppa Italia output to rivals AC Milan who are in danger of derailing their season.
“I think it was a good game on our part. After a few bad results we saw the real interteen again, playing with the heart outside, and I am really proud,” Dumfries told Prime Video.
“Of course, we wanted to win, but it was a good game and a result that leaves the semi -final completely open. We will see in San Siro where everything is possible for us. We are a strong team and we have to prove it every game.”
Dumfries (two goals, one assist) also became the first Dutch player to score and assisted in a semi -final of the Champions League since Wesley Sneijder in April 2010, who also did this for Inter against Barcelona, who also did this for Inter against Barcelona.
