Inzaghi confident Bologna loss not crucial to Inter’s title chances

Simone Inzaghi urged his inter-players to regain their focus after they had dropped points in the Serie A-title race after a 1-0 loss to Bologna on Sunday.

Bologna replacement Riccardo Orsolini scored the winner in the fourth minute of the second half of the stop time, whereby Inter was compiled into only a fourth league defeat of the season.

Bologna saw the result beat in Serie A for the first time in the Serie A since February 2023, celebrated with their victory in Naples while the title race starts to warm up.

Inter are now on points with the second placed Napoli, with the side of Antonio Conte on Saturday with 1-0 winners on Monza to keep their Scudetto ambitions intact.

“It was a balanced match, with the keepers who intervened little,” Inzaghi told the reporters.

“We played an organized game, with a big sacrifice. In the second half we could have developed a few times better, and then the last episode punished us.

“However, we should not think that this defeat can influence our path.”

Inter, one of the eight teams that have won a competition, cup and Champions League Treble, could repeat the performance this season.

“I am happy with the performance because I thought we could suffer more from a team like Bologna,” Intaghi added.

“I am disappointed about the result, but Bologna is a team of absolute value.”

The cause of Inter was not helped by the absence of top scorer Marcus Thuram, with the forward entry of Piotr Zielinski and Denzel Dumfries on the sidelines earlier this week.

“We certainly missed (Dumfries and Thuram), but we are used to it because it is a period in which we never succeed in being at full power,” said Inzaghi.

“Tonight, however, we have to analyze the defeat and leave the nervousness aside.

“The team was now very disappointed and nervous, so we will do it later, but our championship will not end here.”

Thuram, who scored 14 goals this season in the Serie A, missed Sunday's defeat with a thigh injury.

The Frenchman is also a doubt for the Coppa Italia semi-final second stage against Rivals AC Milan, with the draw fine on 1-1.
