Inzaghi lauds Inter resilience after overcoming Supercoppa Italiana defeat

Simone Inzaghi praised the resilience of his Inter side in their Serie A victory over Venezia on Sunday, a win that moved them up to second in the table.

The result came just six days after their last defeat in the Supercoppa Italiana to rivals AC Milan, with Matteo Darmian's strike in the 16th minute being enough to seal the win.

The Nerazzurri have now won their last six consecutive away games without conceding a goal for the first time in the club's illustrious 115-year history.

And they were worth their victory, with an expected goals total (xG) of 1.9 from their 17 shots, compared to Venezia's paltry 0.38 from their seven attempts.

However, Inzaghi acknowledged his side needed to be more clinical in front of goal, with a number of spurned chances late on almost being punished by Gianluca Busio, who curled an effort against the post.

“If we analyze the second half, all our actions could have led to a second goal and if you don't finish the game it remains open, especially with great saves from Stankovic,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

“It wasn't easy, but we won and that's what we wanted. It wasn't easy for us after losing the final like that. The boys were great, we came here tired and we played a great game. “

Inter return to Serie A on Wednesday when they take on Bologna, but Inzaghi revealed he could be without several players due to injuries.

The likes of Hakan Calhanoglu, Francesco Acerbi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all missed Inter's victory over Venezia.

“We will have to talk to the medical staff. There is a little hope for Calhanoglu and Acerbi, while (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan will be evaluated tomorrow,” he said.

“The positive thing is that we have Benjamin Pavard back, who hasn't played for a long time.”

Inzaghi also said that Davide Frattesi remained part of the club's plans, despite reports suggesting a move to Roma, Napoli and Tottenham could happen.

Frattesi has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Inter this season, although only eight have played since the start.

“I count on Davide and he is very committed to this project,” said Inzaghi.

“He has worked hard and without Mkhitaryan's injury he would probably have started today. He has given us so much satisfaction.

“I realize that he probably wants more playing time, but we are happy with him and want to continue with him.”
