Ipswich 2-0 Chelsea: Blues remain fourth as Delap & Hutchinson on target

Liam Delap's exceptional goal display helped Ipswich secure their first home win of the season, while Chelsea's title hopes dwindled.

Eredivisie 2024/2025

2-0

  • Liam Delap (12'PEN)
  • Omari Hutchinson (53')

After scoring a penalty in the twelfth minute, the 21-year-old striker set up former Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson's second eight minutes after the break.

Chelsea dominated possession but were wasteful and the video assistant referee (VAR) ruled out Joao Felix's first-half equalizer after a long check for offside.

Earlier, ex-Manchester City striker Delap scored a penalty which he won after VAR ruled there was “sufficient contact” from goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen after the Ipswich man had dribbled past him.

Delap later took advantage of Axel Disasi's poor back pass to make Hutchinson 2-0.

Ipswich's victory puts them above Leicester City in 18th place and just one point behind Wolves in the table as they look to move out of the bottom three.

Chelsea have now lost consecutive games after the goalless draw with Everton, which ended an eight-match winning streak in all competitions, and they remain fourth in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca's men are 10 points behind leaders Liverpool – while Arne Slot's pace setters also have a game in hand – making a sustained title challenge look unlikely.
