Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has been dropped from the starting line -up of Ruben Amorim for the Europa League final, only a few hours after lifting eyebrows with a post on social media.
The Argentinian, which was a fixture this season in the side of Manchester United with 57 performances in all competitions, was mentioned on the bench for the game of Wednesday evening when Mason Mount started his first Europa League start since November against Bodo/Glimt.
The showpiece in Bilbao has enormous consequences for both Manchester United and Tottenham, who are in the top flight 16th and 17th respectively after the disastrous domestic seasons, with both European silverware and the qualification of the Champions League offered for the Victor.
Garnacho saw a depressed and frustrated figure cutting on the field in Bilbao's San Mames Stadium when the news about the starting line -up of Amorim broke.
Standing next to Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon, who was briefly on loan in Old Trafford last season, the 20-year-old attacker did not seem to be impressed and unconsciously prior to the Europa League show piece, with one earphone in.
Just a few hours earlier, Garnacho went to social media to place a memory that he scored last season in the FA Cup Final Triumph over the FA Cup final of the Red Devils about Manchester City, when Erik ten Hag was manager.
Although there are no indications that Garnacho's post has anything to do with his omission of the last line -up of the Europa League, the timing has certainly raised eyebrows.
More to follow.
