Alexander Isak's Transfersaga will continue, with the striker on the first Premier League match of Newcastle United against Aston Villa, but there is some optimism that a resolution can still be achieved
Newcastle United could solve the distance of Alexander Isak by agreeing to sell it next summer once they have found a replacement, says former Premier League defender Chris Powell. The Swedish striker announced his intentions to stop Tyneside in July and has since attracted a stunning £ 110 million offer from reigning champions Liverpool.
But the magpies judge their Sterman much higher and leave negotiations at a complete impasse in St. James' Park. Isak has made it clear that this season he will not pull a Newcastle shirt while he insists on his dream switch to Anfield, although the situation is becoming on the table without improved offer, the situation is becoming increasingly toxic.
Powell, who could be seen in the top flight for Derby County, Charlton and Watford before moving to management, thinks there is still a way ahead and believes that the club ISAK could throw a lifeline by promising to cash him in as soon as they have drawn up a good replacement.
“There is a way back for Newcastle when they say to Isak:” Give us a year, “said Powell, Footy Accumulators no Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, in collaboration with Boyle Sports.
“We have seen it before with (Cristiano) Ronaldo and (Sir Alex Ferguson) Fergie, give him a year and he can go next summer. That gives them time to get a replacement.
“At the moment they have missed (Benjamin) Sesko, (Bryan) Mbeumo, one or two others, they can't get a replacement now. Suddenly they can panic and get players they don't want.”
Newcastle has had two record -breaking bids for strikers that were rejected this summer, including an range of £ 70 million for Hugo Ekitike that was rejected, Chronicle reports live.
Liverpool managed to secure the signing of the French striker of Frankfurt in a £ 79 million deal, and shortly thereafter avoided another target, Benjamin Sesko, so do them.
The magpies made two offers for RB Leipzig Vooruit, with the second bid escalating up to £ 75 million. Despite the lucrative range of Newcastle, Manchester United eventually secured his services.
Howe's side missed another chance to replace the 25-year-old, leaving Isak in a state of uncertainty. He currently trains separately from his colleagues in Newcastle.
Powell has suggested that the club should reach a compromise with Isak and convince him to stay another year before he guarantees his departure next summer when a new striker can be signed without any hurry. However, the 55-year-old admits that the move from Isak to Liverpool is inevitable in the future, despite the insistence of the club that he is not for sale.
“I think Isak is going to Liverpool. For him to do that and express his desire to leave, he is going,” Powell, who last coached Sheffield on Wednesday, a position he left in July.
“They will not keep him and tell him that he is in the reserves. You can't do that anymore, those days are over. He goes to Liverpool. And if Liverpool gets him, that's it. The competition is over.”
