Israel Adesanya provides his verdict on a potential fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall as negotiations begin… ‘Oh my god, he’s fast’

Following his successful UFC 309 title defense against Stipe Miocic, Jon Jones has begun negotiations with the promotion for his next fight.

Despite his recent comeback fight being highly controversial, Jon Jones reminded fans why he is considered the greatest fighter of all time by defeating Stipe Miocic in the third round of their main event.

Following his first title defense as heavyweight champion, 'Bones' remained adamant that he is unlikely to unify the title against interim champion Tom Aspinall, despite continued calls from fans.

Israel Adesanya makes a statement about possible fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall

Although the 37-year-old expressed a desire to fight Alex Pereira instead, UFC CEO Dana White claimed he should fight the British champion.

With that, both Aspinall and Jones have since teased that they have entered negotiations for their next fight, which has led to fans remaining hopeful that we would get a unification fight.

Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who previously had a brief online feud with Jones, has given his verdict on the potential fight between Jones and Aspinall after White labeled it “the biggest fight in heavyweight history.”

“That's the fight we all want to see. They have to fight. I think, fuck, (Jones) finds a way, but Aspinall so far, the way he dismissed (Sergei Pavlovich), oh my god, he's fast,” Adesanya said on FLAGRANT Podcast.

“I met him and sat next to him at UFC 300, him and his dad, cool guys, nice guys too, but he's the same height as me, if not an inch taller but thick. And I was like, 'F*ck, you're a lot fatter than I would expect,' and the speed, that's the thing that made me think, 'Okay, that's the danger.'

“But again, he has a black belt, Jon is (different) but I don't know man, they gotta fight, but if they never fight we'll never know because we had that with Jon and (Anderson) Silva, we had that with Silva and (Georges St-Pierre), so there are all these fights that we will never see,” Adesanya continued.

Rumors are swirling about Israel Adesanya's next fight

Following 'The Last Stylebender' title fight against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 305, the former champion is taking some time away from the Octagon as he plans his next move.

Despite this, it was recently reported by Red Corner MMA that the UFC is working on a fight between Adesanya and fifth-ranked 185lber, Nassourdine Imavov.

The Nigerian recently teased that matchup on his Instagram, when he posted an image to his story of himself watching Imavov's fight against Jared Cannonier.

The fight will reportedly take place upon the promotion's return to Saudi Arabia on February 1, but it is unknown if this will be the main event.
