‘It may be a Unitedy thing now’, says Bale after Spurs’ Europa League win

Former Tottenham Hotspur -star Gareth Bale joked that the term “Spursy” “United” will be after their last victory of the Europa League over Manchester United.

Spurs came on Wednesday with 1-0 winners about the Ruben Amorim team on Wednesday, with Brennan Johnson scored the only goal in the 42nd minute.

Indeed, the result saw Spurs lift their first trophy since the EFL Cup in 2007-08, and their first European trophy since 1983-84, when they won the UEFA Cup.

Bale was part of the team that Chelsea defeated in Wembley Stadium 17 years ago, but missed the final because of an ankle injury that was contracted earlier in the season.

The Welshman, who retired from professional football in January 2023, was part of the Match Coverage team for TNT Sports for the final in Bilbao.

And after the result, Bale responded to the victory of Spurs by joking with the former United defender Rio Ferdinand and said, “It can now be an 'united' thing, I tell you.”

Although his comments may have joked, Bale said it would be a huge relief for Spurs to finally demanded some silverware.

“It now removes that stigma, and hopefully they can build on it,” he said TNT Sports.

“It's great for the club, it's a long time ago. Now Ange goes down like a legendary manager and wins a European [trophy].

“Now they finally have it from their backs, hopefully this is a stepping stone to expand.

“They will have a money injection with the Champions League, they can bring in and strengthen players from there.”

Spurs -goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario also said he hopes that the victory can help the club to go beyond the “Spursy” tag.

“All the jokes, all things about Spursy and things like this, now I don't know, maybe we stopped,” he told a press conference after the game.

“We are very happy for ourselves about what we have experienced this season.

“See now next season, we are in the Champions League, which is a huge achievement, it is where this club should stay.”
