Italy will display VAR images in stadiums and referees will explain decisions

The measures will be implemented in the next Serie A Matchday and in the semi -final of Coppa Italia.

From next week, Serie A will broadcast images of VAR reviews in stadiums to help fans understand referee's decisions, while in the Coppa Italia decisions are explained via audio – both in the stadium and on TV.

Italy, one of the first competitions that implemented semi-automatic offside, took another step forward with VAR technology.

“Lega Series A announces that, starting with MatchDay 30 of the championship, the Vardict signal (ie the TV-graphic images during VAR checks) will integrate into the giant screens of the stadium, which means that spectators are present on all current VAR reviews,” said the long-term VAR control.

Como-empoli, the first

The first match with this new position is therefore Como 1907-Empoli, which will be played this Saturday 29 March.

Milanese derby in Coppa

The semi-finals of Coppa Italia are the Derbies of Milan and Empoli-Bologna. The first legs are played on April 1 and 2 and the second legs are played on April 23 and 24.
