Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has made no attempt to hide his frustration at La Liga's performance this week, backing his president's comments about a penalty the Blaugrana failed to concede against Getafe. In a late corner, Jules Kounde went down under pressure from Chrisantus Uche in the penalty area, but neither the referee saw enough to award a penalty nor did the VAR think it was enough to call him on to make a decision.
The decision made headlines after the match, but on Monday morning president Joan Laporta said it was not talked about enough. Laporta called the decision a scandal. Naturally, Flick was asked about it during his pre-match press conference, as Barcelona prepared to take on Benfica in the Champions League at the Estadio da Luz.
Flick has so far been careful not to comment much on referee decisions, but that intention is slowly losing traction.
“Was it or wasn't it? (laughs). I don't know what to say. It's the same in every game. It's incredible. To me it's incredible. You don't need VAR, it's a clear penalty. What should I say?”
