‘It’s a disgrace’ – Barcelona President Joan Laporta furious after Getafe draw

Barcelona again fell to a damaging draw against Getafe on Saturday evening, but were unable to maintain their lead and were unable to find a way through Azulon's backline for the second time. The match was not without controversy, however.

In the final phase, goalscorer Jules Kounde was abused by Chrisantus Uche during a corner kick, but the referee did not consider this enough for a penalty, and the VAR also did not call for an assessment of the referee. A decision that Barcelona president Joan Laporta did not agree with.

While in court, he gave evidence on Monday about a €4.7 million fraud case in which he is accused of misleading investors. “The referee at Getafe was a disgrace. That they didn't ask Kounde for a penalty is a scandal. A scandal. You should repeat it more often,” Laporta told the gathered journalists outside the court. “Exactly,” he responded to the comparison with another penalty that Getafe gave away against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this season.

It is not the first and probably not the last time that Laporta points the finger at the performance when things go wrong for Barcelona. Last season he accused Real Madrid of being the beneficiary of decisions in the history of the two clubs. Something that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone also alluded to on Friday, to which Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos responded.
