Barcelona received their La Liga title defense on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Mallorca, who was a controversial meeting at Son Moix. The hosts had sent two players in the first half, but their biggest anger came from the award of the second goal of the Catalans of the Night.
Ferran Torres shot home from the edge of the box, while Mallorca captain Antonio Raillo was hit on the floor after blocking a shot with his head. The hosts thought the game had stopped, but it wasn't, and it meant that Barcelona went 2-0 and the accompanying anger increased when Manu Morlanes and Vedat Muriqi were quickly sent within a few minutes.
According to Diario AS, Mallorca -head coach Jagoba Arrasate gave his reaction to the controversial moment, claiming that the game should have been stopped according to La Liga's own guidelines.
“I think we've seen it all. They explain to all of us last week that, if there is a blow in the head, the game is stopped and the fourth official told him to stop because it is a slap in the head. He puts the whistle on his mouth, we all thought he had wheluted and to everyone's surprise, he scores.
“I don't fully understand. He spoke to me for which I thank him, and he gave me a statement. He told me that (Raillo) has not been dizzy, and if you fall, you don't know if he's dizzy or not.”
Raillo, who was the player involved in the incident, also spoke. According to Marca, his feelings were made very clear.
“Ferran's statement is clear, he thinks the referee has blown the whistle and that is why he was shot. Our feeling is that it is a shame for a match, because with two players less you lose the show.
“The ball gets in my head and ten seconds have passed. I get a bit dizzy because my first two steps are to get up and I can't, so I think there is more than enough time to stop. Let him explain why he stops other plays on the second and it takes ten.”
