It’s party time! Thousands of Newcastle fans take over Covent Garden ahead of Carabao Cup final with Liverpool

Fans of Newcastle traveled en masse to storm the capital for the EFL Cup collision from their side with Liverpool on Sunday.

The competition starts at 4:30 PM (GMT) in Wembley Stadium, with 32,000 Newcastle fans the journey to the south.

The magpies hope to end their 70-year-old trophy-dried against the Imperious Reds of Arne Slot, who undoubtedly removed the wind from them after they were bounced out of the Champions League in the midweek in the midweek.

This is the second chance of Newcastle in three years to win the EFL Cup under Eddie Howe, after a 2-0 defeat of Manchester United in 2023's final.

In the evening before that match, the tone went to Trafalgar Square to make their presence feel in London with a huge turnout. Nobody was seriously damaged, and the greatest damage to these chaotic scenes was a large amount of nest, which many fans helped clean up the next morning.

Nevertheless, the metropolitan police have still warned that, although they want everyone to enjoy this weekend, supporters should not 'exceed the border'.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: 'We want fans to visit London this weekend to have a great time.

'There is a lot of useful advice on the Wembley Stadium website that we would encourage everyone to read.

'In recent years, fans of visiting Teams have used Trafalgar Square as a gathering point on Saturday for a Sunday game.

'That will not be possible this weekend, because the square will be closed to prepare for an upcoming event. Fans are advised to make alternative schemes and do this in advance.

'Although we know that many fans are planning to drink and entertain a drink, it is in everyone's interest that it does not exceed the border from celebration to antisocial or disorderly behavior.

“Officers will intervene quickly if this is the case.”

Scotland Yard added: 'We will have used officers in the center of London and around Wembley Stadium all weekend to offer a reassuring presence and respond to any incidents.

“All fans with worries should not hesitate to talk to them.”

Liverpool won the EFL Cup last season, but will be looking for their first trophy of the Arne Slot era.

The Reds start as clear favorites, despite the missing of Star immediately back Alexander-Arnold.

Newcastle itself has availability problems. Lewis Hall, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles will all miss the final with different injuries, while former Liverpool -youth player Anthony Gordon is suspended.

Liverpool dominated their head-to-head record against Newcastle, with the last in December 2015 tasting the victory over the Reds.
