‘I’ve never seen something like this’ – Bruno slams fans’ treatment of Zirkzee

BRUNO FERNANDES slammed his own fans for their treatment of teammate Joshua Zirkzee against Newcastle.

The striker was heavily booed at Old Trafford before his substitution in the 33rd minute was greeted with cheers.

Zirkzee walked straight down the tunnel before returning to the bench, with some reports claiming he burst into tears.

Fernandes also watched the affair play out from the bench due to his suspension, and he revealed that the attitude of the fans irritated him.

The United captain told talkSPORT: “I was in the stands and I've never seen anything like it.

“And it frustrates and irritates me a lot, because he is a player who always gives everything.

“As a player who comes into the team from another league, he needs time to adapt, but he has enormous qualities.

“He hasn't shown all the quality, but it can't be that from the first game of the season everyone hyped him as one of the best strikers and now everyone doesn't believe in him anymore.

“We believe in him in the dressing room.

“I would rather be myself in this position against Newcastle and not see any of my teammates in that position.”

Zirkzee has since been tipped to leave United on loan this month following interest from Juventus and Napoli.

But he made a cameo appearance against Liverpool at the weekend, producing what should have been an assist for Harry Maguire's goal from close range.
