‘I’ve never seen that’ – Mbappe scores first ever goal from free-kick

Kylian Mbappe scored his first goal ever of a free kick, but fans claimed that it does not count.

The Frenchman scored twice when Real Madrid Leganes defeated 3-2 to go on points with Barcelona at the top of Laliga.

His winner came from a free kick with Mbappe that bowed his shot over the wall and in the bottom corner.

However, some fans claim that it does not count like the first free kick of his career, because he first passed on the ball to Fran Garcia.

Garcia touched the ball to ensure that it stayed in place before Mbappe unleashed a shot that found a net.

That means that, according to some fans, it was not a direct free kick.

An X account that follows whether Mbappe has scored a free kick has shared a screenshot of a website with the Garcia assist.

The tweeted: “I have never seen an assist on a free kick. No. Day 3409.”

A fan said, “That's not a free kick we do here.”

Another added: “It is not a direct free kick, although 😭

And a third wrote: “That is an open play goal.”

Another fan argued differently and said: “It is what we called an indirect free kick. This type of free kick exists in football.

“As soon as another player touches the ball, he counts as an assist for him and the free kick automatically becomes an indirect. So Mbappe has still scored a direct free kick.”
