Jackson takes ‘full responsibility’ for costly Club World Cup red card

Nicolas Jackson has taken “full responsibility” for his resignation in Chelsea's Club World Cup defeat against Flamengo.

Jackson, on the occasion of his 24th birthday, appeared on Friday as a 64th minute replacement, with the blues at that time 2-1, after Quickfire goals from Bruno Henrique and Danilo.

Yet Jackson's Cameo lasted only four minutes, because he received a straight red card for a result on Ayrton Lucas.

Wallace Yan then closed a memorable 3-1 victory for Flamengo and Jackson did not apologize for his actions.

In a message about his official Instagram account, the Chelsea Forward wrote: “I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates and all fans who watch, I have disappointed you.

“Another red card and, to be honest, I am so angry with myself. I work very hard every day to help the team not put us in situations like this.

“I still don't quite understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it was not intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way.

“No apologies. I take full responsibility. I will think, I will grow, and I will come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry.”

Jackson has now received two straight red cards during his time in Chelsea, where the striker was also sent to Newcastle United in a Premier League defeat in May.

Enzo Maresca, however, said that Jackson's resignation would not affect his future at the club, in which Chelsea has already spent greatly to get Liam Delap from the city of Ipswich.

“The red card had nothing to do with the future of Nico,” said the blues boss. “He had the first against Newcastle when Liam wasn't even here, and another today.

“Nico knows very well that in both situations it was not something good for the team.”

Jackson will now miss the last group D match of Chelsea, against Es Tunis.

The blues are second in the group, so a point against Tunis would be enough to endure them until the last 16.
