Jadon Sancho moved to Chelsea on loan with a permanent step on his radar, but Enzo Maresca still has to make a phone call about his future, where Manchester United needs his sale to finance their summer plans
Enzo Maresca has been non-committal about Chelsea Landing Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal, but known that he could “do better” in terms of goal involvement. The winger is on loan at the Blues of Manchester United while waiting to see where his future lies.
Sancho made the move in the summer, when Erik ten Hag was still in charge of Old Trafford, and the deal was an option to make the loan permanent in 12 months. The former Borussia Dortmund star has been in and out of the team and started 16 of 29 Premier League matches in a badly busy team.
It is understood that Chelsea would have to pay a fee if they would choose to sign Sancho, but also a figure has already been set if they want to buy it. That is about £ 25 million, but the former international English international has not scored or helped since the beginning of January – a run that extends 13 games.
Maresca has supervised a number of signing sessions since he arrived at Chelsea and has a job to keep all his attackers satisfied. For now, the Italian has set his focus on the current season and insisted on “we will see” when it comes to a possible permanent deal for Sancho.
He said: “All players who are with us, I love them all, but at the moment it is the time to end well and then it is not the time to think about next season. I am fully focused on nine games, two months to go, I am completely focused.
Maresca was further put under pressure on the situation of Sancho and added: “To be honest, you probably have more news than I do in terms of Jadon. For me the situation of Jadon is not changing, he is exactly the same. Certainly, in terms of numbers, he could not do it, but it is not only about Jadon, I think we have more players in the same situation.
“Now I don't have to give Jadon -Boodschap because I speak to Jadon every day, I had a conversation with him yesterday. He just has to keep giving his best until the end and this is what we want from Jadon.”
It is claimed that United Baas Ruben Amorim wants to use money that has been collected from the sale of Sancho – and possibly Marcus Rashford – to finance his strict to a striker in the summer. Liam Delap at Ipswich has been cited as a possible target with an impression on Portman Road.
Amorim knows that, with the qualification of Champions League unlikely, unless the club wins the Europa League, he will have to sell part of his assets if he will make a number of smart summer additions. United has several players on loan who can continue to continue with Antony who takes place at Sancho and Rashford with their football, away from Manchester.
