Four people were convicted of hate crimes and threats against Real Madrid Superstar Vinicius Junior, after a notorious incident in 2023 for Madrid Derby. The members of the organization are linked to Atletico Madrid Ultra Group Frente Atletico.
It was ahead of a derby collision between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in 2023 in the Copa del Rey, when the night before the game a bloated doll with a Vinicius shirt was hung on a bridge on one of the most important motorways of the Spanish capital. It was also near the Valdebebas training field, which increases the chance when the Brazilian and his teammates saw the image. The accompanying of the image was a big banner who said: “Madrid really hates.”
After two years of investigation and legal proceedings, four people were convicted of hate crimes and making threats, according to Diario ALS. One has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for the hate crime of racism, and another seven months for making threats. They received a heavier punishment as a result of publishing the Social Media Act.
The other three convicted for the incident received seven months in prison for hate crimes and seven months for threats. They have also received fines between € 720 and € 1,084.
La Liga was the first to pursue the case in court, and until last year the Spanish football had never seen a prison sentence distributed by hate crimes. With the flood of abuse, however, Vinicius has made an attempt, or sufficient or not, to increase measures against racial prosecution. However, various beliefs have now been issued, this is the hardest of the punished penalties. Nevertheless, it remains an overly usual issue in Spanish football.
