The current Rayo Vallecano player has been excluded from the Copa del Rey selection because the Colombian has been struck by a virus.
James Rodríguez will not be part of the squad for Rayo Vallecano's Copa del Rey match against Racing Ferrol on Friday. The Colombian is suffering from a stomach virus that has prevented him from attending the team's recent training sessions.
At the same time, unconfirmed rumors were circulating claiming that the player, despite being left out of the Rayo squad, would appear at the Kings League World Cup Nations in Milan, where Colombia is competing.
Since January 1, James has been free to negotiate his future and talk to potential suitors, with it appearing clear that his immediate career lies outside Vallecas and Rayo.
“James had a problem during his holiday, like Pedro Díaz with a stomach virus. The club is aware of it and we are waiting for tests,” Rayo coach Pérez announced at the press conference prior to the cup match.
Iñigo warns James
Once again, the Rayo Vallecano coach was forced to respond to a series of questions about the Colombian's lack of playing time in LaLiga. He stated that no player before him has been relegated and that there is no news of movements in this winter market.
“Both James and others who believe they are not getting the right number of minutes will need to speak to the club. I am happy with the team at a time when there is no planned movement on the market,” said the coach.
He also reiterated that for him there are no “theoretical starters and substitutes” and that the coach always considers the players who are most suitable according to his game plan and as things stand now it is clear that the Colombian is not in that fits.
Any future decision made by the midfielder will be crucial to his first-team action with the Colombian national team, which is well-positioned to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup.
