Jamie Carragher says it is “crunch time” for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta as they look to win big trophies after their 5-1 win over Crystal Palace.
The Gunners put pressure on Liverpool and Chelsea above them to finish third in the title race, cutting the gap to Arne Slot's leaders to just three points. It was an impressive performance from Mikel Arteta's team at Palace, especially in attack.
Arsenal lost key player Bukayo Saka to injury in the first half and still scored five goals.
Carragher has now challenged them to get going after Arteta celebrated five years in charge this week, saying: “We are starting to buy time for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta as manager.
“He's done a great job but now it's time to start winning trophies. They've been a brilliant team but there have been a lot of brilliant teams in the Premier League era that we remember but never won a trophy , like Leeds, Newcastle and Tottenham. This team doesn't want to be remembered like that.
“This feels like a really big win. Given what's happened in the last few games, they've had a good run of games so they couldn't afford to drop any more points.
“They really need to get their season going by stringing together some results and building the belief that they can win this title.
“Arteta's five-year anniversary where we are now, we are starting to reach a real crunch time, they have to start delivering the biggest trophies.
“They will be there or there at the end of the season. If they don't win it will feel like a disappointment.”
