Jamie Carragher calls out Liverpool penalty decision after referee confusion

Jamie Carragher claimed that Liverpool was immediately on the backfoot versus PSG after a controversial mint throw.

The Reds fell in their French opponents on Wednesday evening, the road that won on penalties after a 1-0 success in the night. Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones both missed Liverpool, where Mohamed Salah is the only one who finds it just before the hosts.

But Carragher was stunned by the pre-Penalty Shootout conversation between Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, PSG skipper Marquinhos and the referee. A coin was reversed, who won the French side and chose to take the penalties at the end of the stadium of Anfield Road.

But interesting is that PSG then performed to take the first punishment of the shootout that was successfully converted by Vitinha. Speaking of that, said Carragher: “One thing that I could not work out with the penalties was that there was clearly a coin throw with Virgil van Dijk [and PSG’s captain].

“PSG must have won to bring it to the other side [away from the Kop] But then also took the first punishment. So I wasn't sure what happened there. Normally you only get one advantage and the other team gets the first penalty … but PSG earned it to continue. “

While Carragher was confused about the double disadvantage of Liverpool against PSG, he soon received clarification by the former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg. He said about comment: “I think that of course Liverpool would love it at the head, but it is up to the referee.

“It is the call from the referee on which side it is on the coin. It will be one side for one side of the mint and the other side of the pitch for the other side of the coin.

“Then the captains will decide and if he is the lucky one, he will decide to take the first or second fine. But it is the appeal of the referee about the first coin throw where it will be. “

Clattenburg was then asked whether the police had the power to change the location of the penalties due to possible problems between the opposite groups of supporters. And he suggested that they did that, but because of their small hostility between the stands, it was unlikely that the end would only be switched for a few moments before the kick -off.

And PSG fans ensured that they fully benefit from the decision. One French supporter was heard by screaming a megaphone in support from his side while he could be heard Booing and playing a siren when Liverpool stars stepped to make their own efforts.
