Jamie Carragher can’t resist response to Mo Salah blast despite being live on Sky Sports

Jamie Carragher has tried to smooth things over with Mo Salah after the Liverpool star accused him of being 'obsessed' with him.

Salah, 32, posted a cryptic image on social media after scoring his 21st goal of the season against Manchester United on Sunday. The photo featured three Liverpool players: himself, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

All three are out of contract at the end of the season, but the trio have behaved differently in recent weeks. Salah first announced in November that Liverpool had not offered him a new contract and has since said that a new contract is still 'a long way off'.

Meanwhile, Carragher believes Alexander-Arnold's camp had given Real Madrid the opportunity to make a bid on New Year's Eve despite being able to sign him on a pre-contract 24 hours later. As for Van Dijk, Carragher has described him as 'statesman-like' and suggested that Salah and Alexander-Arnold should act more like their teammate.

Salah responded to Carragher's claim by posting on X, formerly Twitter: “I'm starting to think you're obsessed with me,” adding a winking emoji.

Carragher responded while in the Sky Sports Monday Night Football studio covering Nottingham Forest's high-flying trip to Wolves, posting on social media: “I've always been obsessed with you. Hopefully that obsession will continue next season.”

The ex-Reds defender then said on Sky Sports after Forest's 3-0 win: “I mean, I have a Mo Salah obsession. But I don't think it's the kind of obsession he thinks it is. It's more like a football match.” obsession and seeing him in a red shirt.

“I came in and answered as diplomatically as I could. I think, 'I'm not going to criticize Mo Salah or Trent Alexander-Arnold, I'm going to be enthusiastic about Virgil van Dijk' and I get involved in all kinds of situations.” That tweet gives me a bit of confidence that he will sign this deal with Liverpool.

Carragher had told Sky Sports earlier on Monday when asked about Salah's social media post: “You know what I would say? I would say Virgil van Dijk has come out of this whole situation this season, as captain of the club, in a higher rating,” Carragher began.

“The way he behaved, his performance on the pitch, the way he led the team, the way he was yesterday, and he's not involved too much in this.

“It's obviously a very important time for all three players, we know that, but I think instead of talking about Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mo Salah, I probably want to pay tribute to Virgil van Dijk. I think he comes across as a true statesman, because of the way he deals with it.

“He's been asked questions, he's thrown it away, he's here to win the league, he wants to do his very best for Liverpool and fingers crossed he signs. I think the other two might go to Virgil van Dijk look and be able to take a leaf out.” of his book.”
