Jamie Carragher has cast doubt on Andy Robertson's ability to perform at left-back for Liverpool, urging manager Arne Slot to prioritize signing a new defender in the January transfer window.
The Scotland international, 30, earned his 20th start of the season in all competitions during Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
However, Carragher has expressed his concerns over Robertson's form, despite recognizing his contributions as a 'legend' to the club and claiming the defender is 'hanging in every game'.
Carragher said after the match: 'This manager's style is slightly different to Klopp's. It's not that gung-ho. Liverpool have a lot more goals in the team than Arsenal.”
He added: “Liverpool are still conceding goals. Liverpool are due to sign a full-back in January. I think left back. Robertson is an absolute legend, he continues to persevere every game now.'
Roy Keane shares a similar perspective to Carragher. Ahead of the match, the former Manchester United captain highlighted Robertson as a potential weak link in Liverpool's line-up.
“The only player I would look at Liverpool that I have questioned over the last two years is Robertson,” Keane told Sky Sports. “I think if you have the opportunity to run at him, you should make the most of it.”
Manchester United, who have been under scrutiny for their poor form this season, produced a spirited performance against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring after a defensive error by Liverpool, after which the home team responded with a goal from Cody Gakpo and a penalty from Mohamed Salah.
Substitute Amad Diallo's late equalizer earned United a point in what was one of their best performances of the campaign. However, Harry Maguire was guilty of missing a sitter at the last minute of the match.
The draw leaves Manchester United languishing in 14th place, no less than 23 points behind leaders Liverpool. Amorim have faced mounting pressure but this spirited display offers some hope ahead of their FA Cup tie with Arsenal.
