Jamie Carragher compared Ryan Gravenberch with a Premier League legend for the collision of Liverpool with Tottenham.
The Reds compete against Spurs in the semi -final second stage of the Carabao Cup, with a backlog of the game, yet favorites to overthrow the shortage and set up a final against Newcastle in Wembley.
Gravenberch started the competition in midfield and filled in his now regulated No. 6 roll when he guarded the rear four, who could hardly afford to admit whether they would qualify for the final.
This season, the 22-year-old has received widespread compliments for his screenings and Carragher sang his praise for the reporting of Sky Sports about the semi-final.
In the summer, Liverpool tried to buy Martin Zubimendi, but the Spaniard rejected the chance to move to Anfield. They did not look anywhere else, with Gravenberch who fell back instead.
And his versions were so impressive that Carragher compared him to one of the most iconic Premier League -midfielders of all time when discussing the midfielder before the game.
“It's really interesting because they thought a lot of him when he came in,” Carragher began. “The reason Bayern Munich let him go, was because they played a different system. Liverpool played 4-3-3, he was more of an attacking midfielder, he would go on runs with his long legs.
'When Liverpool tried players in the six, he was tested. They were not entirely sure of the idea – he was attacking more. I was really intrigued, but I couldn't see how it would work.
'The highest compliment I can give him is that he would be in the race for player of the year, he reminds of Patrick Vieira, the long legs moving through midfield. He has been a revelation. '
In total, Gravenberch has published 70 performances for Liverpool since he joined £ 35 million, with 31 this season after the wrestling to find a role under Jurgen Klopp.
He has been one of the first names on the team magazine, with many who wonder whether Liverpool will take the trouble to go on the transfer market.
In the meantime, Vieira won three Premier League titles with Arsenal and was the leader of their Invincibles team in the 2003-4 season.
Jamie Redknapp was another one to sing his praise on Sky's Broadcast and said: 'It's a masterstroke. It could have been the other way if they got Zubimendi. He has been an absolute master in midfield this season.
'The turn has become his trademark, he is so powerful. He can do everything, cover the ground … I would hate to have played against him.
“He runs effortlessly past people. The manager must take the honor, he has had the confidence in him and in that position Liverpool looks much better. '
