The embarrassment of Phil Foden could stop his career in England compared to the 'arrogant' style of Jude Bellingham, Jamie Carragher claimed.
The Star of Manchester City came under the microscope during the international break for his performance against Albania, in which Thomas Tuchel criticized the lack of 'impact' of his and Marcus Rashford.
But Foden bounced back from the bank in the 3-0 win over Latvia and offered an assist for the spectacular goal of Ebereechi Eze.
It has been a difficult season for Foden, who returned from the European Championship with 'Mental Burnout' and Mail Sport has reported how the stars of the city are private concerned about Foden.
Yet there is no doubt about his sublime talent, as evidenced by his 27 goals and 13 assists last season when he won the Premier League player of the season – even if he still has to reproduce that form on the international stage.
'When I see Phil Foden playing, he just seems like a shy boy, which is fine. I don't think he has that arrogance for England in the same way as Jude Bellingham does, “Carragher told the Stick to Football podcast, offered you by Sky Bet.
“That stops him a bit. He tried in every position, but he just didn't perform. '
Gary Neville, however, says that Foden deserves more respect and is a huge asset because of his versatility.
'So what happens to players like Phil Foden is that they are more flexible and more versatile. Jude Bellingham has to play where he plays – and because he (FODEN) is flexible, you can place him everywhere. You can play him number 10, then left wings player and then right wing player – you move around, “he said.
'It is the age-old thing with England-bommig players to play in shape and other players are respected for the club.
'Managers for England, for years, who have been to many tournaments – I know how they think. In the end, someone like Harry Kane doesn't matter if he didn't score in his last five games for his club – he is going to play for England.
'Alan Shearer only scored all the way to the euros, lessons [Ferdinand] Was never going to play and Robbie Fowler would never play. It always becomes shearer. For me, Foden should be that player. '
The status of Foden in England was questioned during a difficult Euro 2024 campaign where, despite reaching the final with England, Foden struggled to impose the lesser -known left -wing flank.
Later he told the Manchester Evening News: 'I feel frustrated that I didn't get what I wanted to get out of it. The position I was placed on the left was very difficult to influence the game.
'Last season come out as the best player in the Premier League and plays the midfield, I feel that the position was quite difficult to get used to it.
'I am someone who can play multiple positions and had to try to deal with them as well as possible. I don't feel that England once started working or acted to our potential. '
Getting the best out of their miraculous talents has proved to be a difficult task for the three lions in the years that dates from Foden.
The 'Golden Generation' of England never went further than the quarterfinals of a large tournament and that was partly due to an inability to properly accommodate their most talented stars.
In contrast to Neville, Roy Keane argued after the 2-0 victory of England against Albania in Tuchel's first game that was in charge that Foden should look over his shoulder.
“I think he might be missing from trust, and he is sure, his club form is not great, but we know he has that quality,” he said ITV.
'But even tonight when he got it, I wasn't going there … Usually when FODEN are at his best, you sit there, something will happen, even when he cuts inside, he will faint a faint, take a shot, he hasn't done anything tonight.
“And every time he gets the ball now, I look at him going:” I don't expect anything from Foden at the moment. '
“Wherever he plays, you influence the game, you can influence the game in different ways, and he didn't do that tonight.”
'Listen, Foden will not have that problem about where he wants to play (wide out or without 10) because he will not play. That is a bigger problem for him. '
