Jamie Carragher reveals the ‘worrying’ sign for Mikel Arteta as pundit says Arsenal MUST win a trophy next season

Jamie Carragher has warned that Mikel Arteta should win a trophy next season, otherwise Stint would be able to end up if Arsenal manager ends up.

Arteta has been in charge of the Emirates Stadium since 2019, but only has the 2020 FA Cup to show for his efforts so far.

In both 2023 and 2024, Arsenal came on the wrong side of a Premier League struggle with Manchester City, eventually as second.

This year, Arteta led the club to the semi -final of the Champions League, but was again short of the title race when Liverpool took first place.

Sky Sports Pundit Carragher writes in De Telegraaf and says that Arteta runs the risk of leaving an inheritance to lay the foundation for a successor to come in later and to secure and elusive title.

The former Liverpool defender has also emphasized a relevant trend from the Spanish manager.

“One of the worrying signs of a manager is under pressure when interviews become more about validating work that has already been done, deviating from increasing criticism of the here and now in the midst of more questions about what comes next,” says Carragher.

'Some of the most recent public comments from Arteta have entered that territory, making him more like a fan on social media that perpetuate a series of complaints about injuries and referee decisions.

“His comments about Arsenal who deserved to beat Paris St-Germain over two legs in the semi-final of the Champions League left him open for spot.”

Carragher pointed to his own former club and also agreed with the recent comments from Arteta about this year's Premier League winners.

“Arteta who compared Liverpool's title -winning performance with the second place of Arsenal in 2023 and 2024 on the eve of the new champions was also not smart,” says Carragher.

'If Liverpool wins their next three games, they end up at 91 points.

'That is more than any Arsenal side in history, which is why Arteta's observation about Arne Slot Wining with fewer points after 35 games than Arsenal after 38 in the past two years.

“For the record, Arsenal had 80 points in exactly the same phase a year ago, and 81 the year before, which would have put them in second place now.”

The Champions League campaign of Arsenal ended this week with a 2-1 defeat against PSG in Paris, 3-1 the final score on aggregate.

Arsenal and Arteta have three Premier League matches this season, starting on Sunday to Anfield.

Then they organize Newcastle, currently fifth in the table and hunt at a Champions League place, before they travel to Southampton to close the campaign.

Arsenal is currently second in the table, although the gap between them and Manchester City in third place up to only three points has been cut.
