Manchester United closes a deal for Wolves star Matheus Cunha as the first summer signing of Ruben Amorim and Jamie Carragher has shared his thoughts about the threatening deal
Jamie Carragher believes that Matheus Cunha is a 'perfect' suitable for Manchester United – but his arrival can force Alejandro Garnacho. The Brazilian attacker will be the first summer signing of the Red Devils.
United is expected to activate a release clause of £ 62.5 million, written in his contract with the current side wolves. It is not expected that personal conditions are a problem.
If the move continues, Cunha would arrive at Old Trafford from the back of his most impressive season in the Premier League that has found the back of the net 15 times. And Carragher believes that he will become a striking signing for the Red Devils, especially given the system that Ruben is playing Amorim.
On Sky Sports the Liverpool icon said: “I think it's a great signature and I think he is a brilliant player. I love seeing him playing. He was halfway in my team of the season, he had a great start of the season.
And although Carragher would be a big fan of Cunha's arrival in Old Trafford, he suggests that it could spell the end for Garnacho's future in the club. He added: “There is a lot of talk about Garnacho, because he has come through the academy system and we know what that means for the PSR [Profit and Sustainability Rules].
“We also know that Man United has had a few problems right now. I think if a decent offer comes for Garnacho, Man United is likely to take it.”
Carragher's Sky Sports colleague Gary Neville has also shared his thoughts about Cunha's upcoming arrival. The United Legend has suggested that it would be an ideal addition to the Amorim system.
He said: “They are desperate in that position, he would fit with the system. If you think of the way in which Manchester United now plays, they let Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcus Rashford go, three players who are of course more players who travel with the ball.

“They are currently playing with Garnacho, but that leaves them cute behind the other side, you have Zirkzee when he was fit or Bruno Fernandes in moments that got one. Mason Mount came in there.
“They need someone who can beat players, someone who is just as good to run through the middle with the ball and travel with the ball, sometimes they go outside and support the wingback.
“He is the type of player that you can see that Manchester United is interested in fitting with the system and how Ruben wants to play Amorim. They have lost three players who play in that kind of position, so that they should definitely fulfill those roles or they will struggle.”
