Aston Villa 3-1 Brentford: Unai Emery’s men end six-week winless run with emphatic victory over toothless Bees
Morgan Rogers sported a new peroxide look and stood out from the crowd with a goal and assist as Aston Villa ended a run of eight games without a win.
Rogers settled a nervous Villa Park with a stunning opener after 21 minutes, putting Matty Cash on edge with Ollie Watkins' penalty in between as Unai Emery's men climbed the Premier League to seventh place.
Without a league win since October, Unai Emery gave Tyrone Mings his first Premier League action since tearing his cruciate ligament on the opening day of last season.
Mings' return to the Champions League was blighted by him needlessly picking up the ball to concede a penalty against Brugge, but Emery still values the 31-year-old's experience.
Fittingly, Mings started the action in his own half which led to Villa's opening goal after 21 minutes.
Boubacar Kamara moved the ball upfield and after Rogers played a one-two with Ollie Watkins, he curled in a beauty from twenty yards.
The goalscorer was easy to spot in the middle of the Villa festivities with his freshly bleached hair.
If he went blonde to bring about a change of luck, it worked on his first goal in six games.
Watkins himself had scored just once in eight games, while his position was under pressure from Jhon Duran.
So when the England striker won a penalty on 28 minutes, outpacing Ethan Pinnock before making a mistake, John McGinn was happy to give him the ball.
Although Fleken got a hand in the attack on the right, the ball trickled into the corner to give Villa a two-goal cushion.
Brentford's away form is just as poor as at home, having won just one point on their travels.
After 34 minutes they fell further behind, with Rogers the creator of the occasion.
He whipped in a cross for Watkins, but when it was cleared by Pinnock, Matty Cash came in at the far post to set up a third goal.
It was the first goal of the season for the Polish international defender and the first goal in the Premier League in fifteen months.
The home side continued as they had left off in the second half, with Digne making another storming run and forcing Fleken to punch his shot away. The keeper then threatened to undo his good work by almost punching the resulting corner into his own net.
Some of Villa's football was starting to look excellent and Watkins had a last-minute header cleared by Fleks.
It was a shock then when Brentford pulled a goal back after 54 minutes, with Mikkel Damsgaard eagerly firing a Villa clearance past Emi Martinez.
The goal woke up the visitors as Mbuemo gestured to the away fans to show their support. Cash threw his body in the way of a Collins shot.
Jhon Duran entered the fray midway through the second half and was his usual lively self. He scored a yellow card and then forced Flokken to make another excellent save.
Mings almost capped his impressive comeback performance with a goal, but his header was a few inches too high.
