Jamie Redknapp has claimed Andre Onana's fundamentally poor goalkeeping cost Man United in their 3-2 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, while Morgan Gibbs-White admitted he thought the star would 'pick up' his long-range shot.
The Red Devils had fallen behind after Nikola Milenkovic's second-minute opener at Old Trafford before hitting back with Rasmus Hojlund equalizing for the hosts.
Forest restored their lead in the second half when Gibbs-White deceived Onana with an effort from outside the penalty area.
The Man United goalkeeper moved to his right to keep out the England international's effort, but Gibbs-White's shot flashed past his leg and into the center of the goal.
Onana's mistake was highlighted by Sky Sports pundit Redknapp as the key moment of the match, with Forest quickly adding a third through Chris Wood's looping header.
Bruno Fernandes pulled one back on the hour mark but Man United failed to equalise.
“You can't defend him there,” Redknapp said. 'He falls backwards, his balance is wrong, his weight is on his heels.
'I never played in goal, I didn't even do it in training. But that is fundamentally very bad goalkeeping.
'You can talk about tactical adjustments all you want, but that goal changed everything. You're on the back foot.'
Former Man United defender Phil Jones admitted the Man United shot-stopper will be 'disappointed' by the mistake but highlighted how he has been one of their most important players this season.
'He will be disappointed about that. It will be a tough watch,” Jones said.
“It's one of the knuckles, but he should keep it.
“He made a mistake, but he has been one of the better goalkeepers this season.”
Forest star Gibbs-White admitted after the match that he expected Onana to keep up his efforts.
'I didn't [think it was going in] Not at all, to be honest,” Gibbs-White told Sky Sports.
'I don't want to discredit Onana, he's a great goalkeeper, but when I had the shot I thought he would pick it up.
“But hey, you count them anyway, I like to contribute to the team.”
Man United are 13th in the table after a sixth Premier League defeat of the season, while Nottingham Forest climbed to fifth place with a first win at Old Trafford in 30 years.
