Jamie Redknapp insists Postecoglou will be sacked if his team fail to win UEL

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes that Ange Postecoglou is at borrowed time after Spurs was beaten 1-0 on Thursday evening by Chelsea.

Enzo Fernandez scored the only goal of the game when Tottenham slid to stay 14th in the Premier League League Table to their sixteenth league.

Spurs still has the chance to end their 17-year waiting time for silverware after reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League, and Redknapp believes that European glory could save Postecoglou, but he insists that their cup run should not make paper about the cracks after a gloomy competition campaign.

“If they were not in Europe yet, I don't think he would still be the manager,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “They have been so poor.

“He knows the price of the ticket. You don't lose 16 games in a club like Tottenham. Yes, they have had injuries, but that's not good enough.

“He has to win the cup. When they win the cup, they create history. If they don't win, they will be history. It is all or nothing for Ange Postecoglou. They are able to do the players to do it, but they need the Spirit. '

Postecoglou was hunted by the traveling fans when he replaced Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert by Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson just after the hour on Stamford Bridge.

He then saw his ear in the direction of the supporters when SARR scored shortly thereafter, only for the goal and then not to be allowed for an error in the structure.

Redknapp's colleague expert Gary Cahill admitted that he was 'stunned' by the tactic of Postecoglou, but admitted that winning a trophy would change the mood at Spurs.

“Their season can be saved in a huge way,” said Cahill. 'They probably can't wait until the Premier League season is over. The Europa League is a distraction. It will save their season (if they win).

'Tottenham, I was stunned with their tactics and how they tried to play. Chelsea, you can see a method. '

Tottenham host of Rock-Bottom Southampton on Sunday and will be looking for a trust of trust prior to the first stage of their Europa League quarter final against Eintracht Frankfurt next Thursday.
