Jamie Carragher has branded Liverpool's dramatic victory over PSG as 'one of the biggest robberies in football'.
The French giants dominated the first stage of the Champions League the last 16 draw, with 70 percent of the possession and 27 shots. In the meantime, the Reds had only one attempted, from which Harvey Elliott scored an 87th minute's winner.
The leaders of the Premier League were thank you to keeper Alisson, who made nine saves in the Parc des Princes. PSG also saw a first half of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia excluded for a narrow country estate.
And Var knew an incident controversially that Ibrahima Konate Bargey Barcola saw in the box. Carragher, who won the Champions League 2005 with Liverpool, admitted that his former party had been lucky.
“That is one of the biggest robberies you will ever see in football,” Carragher told CBS. “I can't believe what I've just seen, PSG was absolutely excellent, they beated Liverpool.
“The last time Liverpool won the competition, Alisson Becker made a rescue against Napoli in the last group match and they could have scored if Napoli had scored. That is always found as a decisive moment.
“That was not a rescue tonight, that was perhaps the biggest performance of his career, especially in a Liverpool shirt. If Liverpool starts to win the competition, which they have a big chance, those performance will be remembered for years.”
Reds Boss Slot admitted that his side was lucky to claim a victory. He said: “I think if we had a draw here, we would have been lucky, that is clear to everyone. I think they were the much better team today, especially in the first half, they had many open opportunities – three or four big, big, big opportunities.
“In the second half they were still the better team, they still had a lot of shots on goal, but they were mainly from outside the frameworks. I felt:” We can hurt them in transition, “but we didn't hurt that. But we waited until the last moment and then we hurt them.”
In the meantime, PSG Baas Luis enrique rumbled that the result was 'very unfair'. He greeted his side for their performance and insisted that they were 'much better' than their opponents.
“It's hard to talk about a game like that. We have completely dominated the game, against one of the best teams in Europe. I am happy with the performance of the team and we have to think about turning this result,” Enrique told Canal+.
“Their best player was the keeper. We were much better than Liverpool. Much better! But they won that game. That is very unfair. I am very proud of my team, very proud of my players. There is a second stage to be played in Liverpool. We will not give up.”
