Jared Cannonier vs Gregory Rodrigues result
You could hear a pin falling in the UFC Apex when the main event of the UFC Vegas 102 started.
It was not long before the atmosphere exploded when Rodrigues began to land large shots. Cannonier threw part of his own back, but he was dropped shortly thereafter. Fortunately for him, Rodrigues let him get too close from the hook and to start a gripping exchange.
When they returned to the striking reach, it became clear that Rodrigues was the bigger puncher when he scored a knockdown but it led again that he came into a Gravling match with the one-off UFC Middleweight Challenger.
There was a lot of backward movement at the start of round two of Rodrigues. 'Robocop' looked gassed, but UFC commentator Daniel Cormier refused to believe that it was true in the fight so early.
Whatever happened, Cannonier began to work in the fight with large punches and effective wrestling that only contributed to the apparent cardioprobles of his opponent.
A war broke out in round three. Rodrigues remained covered with blood, but he seemed to win with his stabbing puncture and hard straight shots.
Everything changed with another 15 seconds on the clock when Cannonier dropped him with a sharp elbow and threatened to end the fight with land attacks until the bell sounded.
In round four, Cannonier came out and closed the show with a series of strikes that his rival left in a ball against the cage after just 21 seconds.
Jared Cannonier responds to his Ko -victory
Cannonier spoke about making a last title run before he is against Rodrigues against Rodrigues on Saturday evening.
After back-to-back losing against Caio Borralho and Nassourdine Imavov, another would almost certainly have led to a pension announcement of the 40-year-old.
But that is not what happened when after an impressive comeback victory he got after an impressive time after an impressive win.
“I think I was hurt enough to fall into that fight a few times,” Cannonier admitted. “Of course Gregory hits hard like hell and he hurled big f— shots.
“I was able to endure the storm and keep my calmness, even in those really heavy places and to work my way back to my feet.
'I'd rather die on my feet than die on my back.
