Manchester United made two bids to sign Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer of 2024 and now the defender has signed a new contract with Everton with an eye-water release clause
Manchester United has discovered what it takes to finally sign Jarrad Branthwaite. Branthwaite, 23, was the subject of two bids from United in 2024, with the second offer of the Red Devils worth a total of £ 50 million.
Everton rejected both proposals and appreciated the defender much higher. After he helped to rise the Toffees away from the relegation scrap and to strengthen their Premier League status last season, Branthwaite has signed a new five-year contract, making him one of the highest earners of the Merseyside Club.
The deal will hold him in the new stadium of Everton on Bramley -Moore until 2030. But they will be powerless to prevent Branthwaite from leaving when a club activates his release clause and corresponds to personal conditions – as United reportedly did a year ago before they turned to Leny Yoro.
According to the mail, his new contract contains an exit clause with a value of more than £ 70 million that will be active next summer. Branthwaite works happily under Toffees manager David Moyes, but has ambitions to play Champions League football and break into the English team.
The 23-year-old made his senior debut for the Three Lions in June last year before missing the Gareth Southgate team for the European Championship. Branthwaite has had to receive another call-up since Thomas Tuchel was appointed.
But the stock of the center-back has remained high, with Tottenham said it has considered making an approach earlier this summer. The former prospect of Carlisle United was also connected to a sensational move to Real Madrid during the office of ex-Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti who ended in May.
It is still too considered whether the Spanish giants will renew their interest, because Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate seems to be their best defensive target for 2026. If a club coughs, the asking price of Everton, Mirror Bally would go to Carlisle, who were being negotiated in January 2020.
For the time being, however, Branthwiate is firmly focused on helping the great to make a successful start in their new home after leaving Goodison Park. “I am in the clouds. It is something we have talked about since the end of the season and to have it signed now is something I am really enthusiastic about,” he told Club Media.

“The confidence that the club has placed in me and how many games I have played in the past two seasons has made a fairly easy decision for me to stay and continue as a player. I know the club. I feel loved by the players – we have a good group here – and the fans.
“In recent years I have seen the impact that fans have on us as a team and how much it means for them. And, of course, with the new stadium that we have here, the new property and the new manager, it is an exciting project and it is something I want to be part of.
“Moving to the new stadium together and having the first game at home is something we are all looking forward to. We want to go again and insist on a good season.”
