Jeremie Frimpong ready to fill Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ‘big shoes’ at Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold left “Big Shoes” to fill after leaving Liverpool last month for Real Madrid, but new signing Jeremie Frimpong has undoubtedly the opportunity to replace the English international in the defense of the Premier League Champions.

The arrival of Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen was announced hours after Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid, with the Dutch international being the first signing of Arne Slot since he won the English top flight.

“Liverpool. It is a big club, so they are big shoes anyway,” Frimpong Sky Sports told an interview that was published on Sunday, when he was asked if he would compete with Conor Bradley to succeed Alexander-Arnold as the first choice of Liverpool for right.

“It is a winning team … they win for a reason for a reason. If you play for a team like Liverpool, you have to fill in and perform the shoes.

“I have always believed in myself. I am a winner. That is what I will bring to the team.”

Frimpong, born in Amsterdam, who can also play as a winger, spent nine years in Manchester City as a youth player before making his senior debut in 2019 at Celtic, who won Scottish premiership in his first season.

The 24-year-old joined Leverkusen in 2021 and made 34 performances when they won the Bundesliga in 2023-24.

“The Premier League is the best competition in the world. I grew up in Manchester, so I always wanted to come back. It was always the plan,” Frimpong said.

“I know how to be a champion at Bayer Leverkusen, so it's a madman to get to a champion team … to play (Liverpool) to play for them.

“The manager told me how I can help the team and he really likes me as a player. It gave me extra motivation and conviction.”
