Jeremy Stephens matches unwanted record with loss at UFC Des Moines

Jeremy Stephens' fairytale -like return to the UFC this Saturday did not go as planned and unfortunately he was the same as a UFC record with his loss.

After such a successful Stint in BKFC where he destroyed Eddie Alvarez, Jeremy Stephens grabbed the opportunity to return to the UFC when the Promotion UFC des Moines announced.

'Lil Heathen' fought against the recurring Mason Jones, who, after a failed first stint in the promotion, earned another shot in the UFC after a piece of victories in Cage Warriors.

Stephens' Run came to an end in the UFC after he had not won in six fights, and he hoped to take that trend in his hometown.

Jeremy Stephens is the same as unwanted UFC record

The 38-year-old started the fight relatively impressive and landed several heavy shots on the chin of his Welsh opponent, but also ate some large shots.

Despite the majority of the first round to play on the feet, where Jones looked to show his own knockout power, he mixed it by the end by scoring a Takedown.

It seems that 'the youthfulness of the Dragon played dividends when the fight progressed when he succeeded Stephens the most occasions in the battle and made the shots that came on his way.

Although the second round played closer between the two, Jones landed the larger shots again and apparently was in the fight.

In the final round, the Welshman went back to his wrestling and scored an important Takedown on 'Lil Heathen', who checked most of the round on the ground, win a decision.

Because Stephens' return was not the fairy tale that he hoped it would be, it was made worse because he now matched the record for most losses in the UFC history with 19, matching Clay Guida.

What is the next step for Jeremy Stephens?

The 38-year-old only signed a Fight Deal to return to the UFC, and after his loss it is unlikely that he will return to fight again under the UFC banner.

Nevertheless, Stephens had become one of the larger stars in BKFC and he will undoubtedly return to the ring.

'Lil Heathen' was hopefully to earn a fight against Conor McGregor, after the two had been rejected opposite the ring after Stephens' on Alvarez, that is now also very unlikely.
