Barcelona will be looking for a new keeper this summer, and at this stage their leading target Joan Garcia is. The 24-year-old was perhaps the best in his position in La Liga last season, and despite the fact that he plays for local rivals Espanyol, there is a desire to get a deal.
Barcelona is determined to land Garcia and they have already sent him a contract offer. Despite playing for Espanyol, the man himself refused to exclude the crossing of the city this summer, but that does not mean that he will certainly do this.
And that is because Garcia also handles the Premier League interest. Arsenal pushed very hard to sign him last summer, but even though they were still enthusiastic, they were left by one of their rivals: Newcastle United.
And according to the Xavi Espinosa from Reloo, the Barcelona and Newcastle is that Garcia chooses between his next step, after he has excluded all other options. Espanyol has already been filed with their goalkeeper who went further, and according to the report a deal can be closed in the coming days.
As soon as Garcia has chosen his next club, things should move quickly from there. It is already known that Espanyol does not intend to negotiate – and especially with Barcelona. As such, he will leave for the activation of his release clause of € 25 million, which is still a very good deal for those who win the two-horse race.
This should be a very interesting struggle between Barcelona and Newcastle. The Catalans are a more attractive prospect, but Garcia is perhaps not an immediate starter due to the presence of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny. For comparison, he would find playing time easier to visit the Premier League side.
