Joe Cole has claimed that Kevin De Bruyne could perform a sensational U-turn and this summer could stay in Manchester City after his performance in their comeback victory at Crystal Palace.
The Belgian midfielder announced last week that he is leaving Manchester City at the end of the season for a free season.
He rolled back the years with a wonderful version when the side of Pep Guardiola reinforced their Champions League-Hoop with a 5-2 victory over Palace.
De Bruyne scored a free kick and then assisted Mateo Kovacic after City had gone two goals in the first half.
And Cole is hopeful that the playmaker will change his mind and stay in the Premier League next season.
Asked if De Bruyne could make a U-turn and expand his contract with the Etihad, Cole said on TNT sports: “I think there is a possibility that can still happen.
'When he said about playing pain-free, there is nothing worse than playing with something painful and people will not know that you will find it and it can take 10-15 percent of your game.
'If you play pain -free, the buoys are out and you feel back to your best. Perhaps that was the case earlier in the season in which he felt hindered by an injury.
“But who knows, we've seen strange things happen. From a Premier League perspective you would like to see him stay here in this club or somewhere else. '
De Bruyne had a serious interest of the Saudi Pro League last year, but decided to stay in the city for a 10th campaign.
Now David Beckham Inter Miami is investigating the opportunity to sign him, although Angel Di Maria has also emerged as a potential target and the MLS side cannot land both.
Next season, the victory over Palace saw City climb to fourth place in the race for Champions League football.
De Bruyne said: 'I want to leave with a Champions League place for this team because they earn it. We have been in the Champions League for the nine, ten years that I have been here, so I hope we can do that for the team next year and I will just try to play good football as I have always done. '
He added: 'I think we started well, had a few chances and out of nowhere we are 2-0 and it could have been three. The answer was good. I thought we were generally playing almost a good game, but we gave the risks away and they hit it. The reaction was really good and in the end I think we deserved to win.
'I think it was important to score as quickly as possible and to change the feeling of the game a bit. I didn't think we played so badly, but the score wasn't good at all. We went from there. '
